TATIANA BILBAO ESTUDIO
EDITOR: BENJAMIN WILKE
“Source Books in Architecture No. 16: Tatiana Bilbao Estudio presents Tatiana Bilbao in conversation with students while documenting a series of projects.”
“Tatiana Bilbao is one of the most exciting architects working today. It gives me great pleasure to write that sentence as I think of her work as exciting not because it is flamboyant (it is not), luxurious (it is decidedly not), or self-important (it would never be), but because it calls out to everyone who experiences it exactly what architecture can do .” —Deborah Berke
“Bilbao's hand-crafted collage language of representation was evident in the students' visual performances, albeit souped up to envelop reviewers in the form of a digital extravaganza in the round. Layered images rotated around the walls of the room forcing spectators to swivel and bend to follow graphics in motion. Yet no amount of electronic magic or digital mirage could overshadow the core strength of the best conceived ideas nor elevate the weaker ones. Overall, each collaboration with Tatiana was inventive, compelling, and challenging to prescribed cultural norms, privatized ownership, and the ubiquity of undervalued hidden labor.”—Kay Bea Jones
“At the core of the studio's practice is the analysis of the context surrounding projects, ranging from master plans to affordable housing”

Tatiana Bilbao ESTUDIO approaches architecture from multidisciplinary perspectives and fosters a collective environment with a diverse team of architects, academics, and model makers. The working method involves hand drawing and iterative models to maintain a design and development process rooted in spatial exploration rather than solely relying on digital tools.
